Nathan Sather is a Tea Party organizer who is helping build April 15 Tea Party events in Bismarck, North Dakota. Nathan says that the Tea Party movement is about defending “The heart and soul our country and everything that she was built upon and up until the past 10 years has stood for.”
This is the ninth in our series of e-interviews with local Tax Day Tea Party organizers. (There are links to the previous eight interviews at the end of this post.)
Nathan, have you done anything like this before?
Never, which only makes the process that much more exciting to see people come together.
What led to you getting involved?
I decided to get involved after the stimulus bill was passed. I am a father of two children and one on the way and they it’s unfair to make them pay for the excess of our generation. In 30 years when they ask me why our country is the way it is now, I want to be able to be able to pull out a yellowed old newspaper and show them what their father did to try to change the course of fiscal irresponsibility in their government.
How do you describe your Tea Party event when you’re getting the word out?
I like talking to people and asking them if they are angry taxpayers. At this time in our country’s history it seems everyone answers yes. Then it’s just a matter of convincing them to ask someone else the same question.
When you talk about the “Eradication of Responsibility”, what do you mean?
In 1000 years history will look back at this time in history and will know this as the era of the “Eradication of Responsibility.” Our parents and grandparents were known as the “Greatest Generation” and we owe it to them to ensure that the era of the Eradication of Responsibility never happens.
What words of wisdom would you share with other local organizers?
Remember that hard working Americans who struggle to put food on the table can’t take time off of work to participate in something like this. Let them bring their entire families out around 6pm and make it an event that allows for as many participants as possible.
What’s easy and what’s hard about organizing a Tea Party?
It really doesn’t matter about whether this is easy or hard. What is important is that it happens and anything worth having is worth the work put into it.
