Fellow American Patriots,
I think it’s as simple as the commitment to do something! We all know even a short walk takes us past all manner of interesting things we couldn’t see when we started walking. Perhaps the first few steps are unexciting but who knows what is waiting around that curve we’re headed toward?
Does that strike a chord in you? You want to do something and you probably have. Maybe you attended a Tea Party or you participate in email discussions on the issues but you’d like to do more. Maybe a lot more. You’re just not sure what or how. Which brings me back to “going for a walk”. Because at some point over the last year, you gave us your email address and asked us to keep you posted on opportunities to be involved. You started to walk. And so did we.
We began in August of 2008. We were the Don’t Go Movement and were talking about Energy Issues. Then from February to April of 2009, we addressed Tax and Spending issues as the national grassroots clearinghouse for the Tea Party Movement at TaxDayTeaParty.com. We realized we were meeting thousands of Americans looking for an outlet for their passion and their patriotism in the face of assaults on our values and way of life. We also realized speaking to only one or two issues a year, while helpful, would not be enough to reverse the erosion of our Liberty we witness daily.
We needed to address many issues and concerns at the same time. We understood we couldn’t do it alone. We needed the strength in numbers; the mutual support of an alliance. When we realized the infrastructure to do that didn’t exist, we started the American Liberty Alliance (ALA). Our vision is to network existing groups with activists looking for a cause and start a few of Sam Adams’ “brushfires of Liberty”! Our method is not to tell you what to do from a national perspective or to lead a charge in support of this or that issue. Rather, we want you to tell us what you are willing and able to do, at your state and local level, and we’ll put you in touch with like minded folks.
It’s a fresh, new approach and it’s working.
Cheryl writes, “I live in New Hampshire where property owners pay the brunt of the taxes. We have no income or sales tax in this state. My property taxes continually go up even when my income doesn’t. This year alone I personally will be paying about $7000 in property taxes. I am considering moving from the state to another where I can afford to pay property taxes. My parents who live on a small pension and some savings are paying $7000 a year in taxes on their home. Half of their pension goes to paying property taxes in this state. It just isn’t fair. Thanks for listening and I’m glad there are organizations like this.”
Brian from GA objects to policy changes in the way we do business. He writes, “These programs will not hurt people of means, however, it will devastate middle class America. Realtors, builders, construction laborers and trades of all kinds, suppliers, furniture and appliance manufacturers - the list goes on - are all damaged - because the government wants to give the few a soft landing. We have to unravel the insane policies being foisted on us by a government out of control and out of touch with its constituents. That is why I joined ALA.”
Gail in TX writes, “Sign me up. I am a small business owner and a middle income American who has worked her entire life to build up for retirement, all that time, being a single Mom. Now the GOVERNMENT wants to redistribute my “wealth” to those who have had hand-outs their entire lives and those who are perfectly capable of working but chose not to as they have too much time still left on their Unemployment Benefits (I have offered jobs to at least three people who have told me just that). I am worried about our country and the legacy we are leaving for our children and future generations — this must STOP.”
See yourself in these stories? Have a different tale to tell? There’s a place for you at ALA. Get involved. Do something. Join us and connect with people like you who are out on their own walk. Click here. Tell us who and where you are, what’s important to you and how you’d like to be involved. It’s completely free to join although if you’ve got a little extra you’d like to send our way, you’ll have the chance to do that, too.
When you join drop me a note and tell me why you did. Maybe I’ll share your story next time. Welcome to political activism for the 21st Century. Welcome to activism that gives you something to do and not just something to say. Welcome to ALA.
