Today’s poll from Rasmussen is very telling in many ways. The poll, released this morning, suggest that the GOP base IS the liberty movement. And right now, that base has left the party.
In a three-way Generic Ballot test, the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds Democrats attracting 36% of the vote. The Tea Party candidate picks up 23%, and Republicans finish third at 18%. Another 22% are undecided.
Among voters not affiliated with either major party, the Tea Party comes out on top. Thirty-three percent (33%) prefer the Tea Party candidate, and 30% are undecided. Twenty-five percent (25%) would vote for a Democrat, and just 12% prefer the GOP.
Among Republican voters, 39% say they’d vote for the GOP candidate, but 33% favor the Tea Party option.
This is good for our movement because it proves what we’ve been saying all along… the two major parties have been courting the wrong crowd. Especially the Republican Party.
I mean, recent polls make it clear that the dominating ideology in America is conservatism. This poll makes it clear that the dominating part of the Republican base is the liberty movement, not the moderates.
Many within the movement are not Republican and never have been, but I think it’s safe to say that the majority of the movement strongly opposes efforts by Democrats to destroy our country.
This was the major problem with John McCain, in my opinion. McCain is a moderate. And while many claimed it was for different reasons, I believe he lost because he had nothing significant to offer the liberty movement. Obama on the other hand promised his base a free ride in life.
It’s wild that Republicans can’t seem to grasp the simplicity of the situation. We’re not asking for freebies, we’re not asking for handouts… we’re instead just asking for our right to be free. We’re asking for representation that will protect our liberty, not trample it.
So, I think this poll makes a few things clear for us. First, Republicans can’t win without the movement. Second, the movement can’t win without the party. At least not in the short term.
If this polling data is correct, then we fail the second we split the vote that opposes Democrats.
This is only my opinion, of course. And I would certainly love to hear yours.
NOTE: In 2010 we need to remain focused. And our focus needs to be on removing big government thugs from office. Starting with those who support healthcare, cap and trade, bailouts and other dangerous legislation.
Take NY 23 as an example. Clearly this needed to contested by an independent because the Republicans totally and completely blew it. Newt lost me with this one. Virginia worked. We won’t get 100% out of any candidate, I don’t think we all agree 100%. To think we could win a presidential bid with an independent I think is wishful thinking.
I fell we should throw the whole lot of the bums out! Start over! Realistic…no. But it sure would show them that we mean business. Term limits!
Time to get some people in there that They work for US! not the other way around! Government is Not the answer!
It was because of Perot that we ended up with cliton (x2), and I see no reason to reinvent the wheel - Reagan led a take-over of the GOP, and the conservative model works.
For that matter, why duplicate effort - and work at crossed-purposes - with in-fighting between the GOP and us? They have the infrastructure, fund-raising mechanisms, personnel and facilities, and it’s all there for the taking.
Take back America…by taking over the GOP, first.
Kick the RINO’s over to the dems - it’ll be kinder for them, since they’ll feel more at home there anyway….
i think we should look to Ron Paul for some answers. He believes in the Constatition and follows it and we should to. Only support those that want to keep us free.
We should surround the capital, block the entrances, send them all home with a promise that they will get unemployment.
Fire the whole bunch. Have elections where no incumbents can run.
Yeah, I know. They won’t go peacably so, this isn’t realistic… or is it?
We need to vote out all politicians that don’t defend our Constituion and borders. If conservative votes are divided at the polls we will have Barack Hussein Obama for a second term. It seems that Republicans and conservatives are hurt the most by third parties. The GOP needs to regain its conservative base and the conservative movements need to support conservative candidates.
@ “Nile L.” who wrote:
“Third parties have, in this country, done nothing except pollute the results of elections.”
Seriously dude, like the two puppets of the same puppet-master need a “third party” to “pollute the results of elections”? Where have you been the last 40 years? What elections are you referring to? Surely not American elections - the Dems & Repubs have “stand-alone” SUCKED for, ohhhh….EVER! (With a few exceptions like Reagan & Kennedy mixed in)
Creating a third party would be a big mistake. That would be deviding the electoral power and handing the elections over to the Democrats. The most strength could be obtained by combining the drive of the ‘tea party patriots’ with the the Republican party.
As you mentioned, they are all thugs and should all and I mean all be removed from having anything to do with our federal government.
I say lets fire them all. And, please, please we must avoid electing or chosing lawyers.
I think the movement needs to be political in the sense of calling on our elected representatives to be accountable, but MOST OF ALL THE MOVEMENT NEEDS TO BE BI-PARTISAN.
I agree that we are ready for a Patriot Party or The Patriot Party…I think that we need to win these elections in 2010 and then form the Patriot Party to begin taking on the government in 2012. Or begin forming the Patriot Party now and win the 2010 elections with the republicans and then take the government back with the Patriot Party in 2012. I am ready to join the Patriot Party right now.
Third parties have, in this country, done nothing except pollute the results of elections. At this stage in our country’s evolution, we need to vote the weasels out of office. This MUST be our prime goal if we expect to be able to vote at all the next time around! A third party is a discussion for after the dust has cleared from this present debacle.
I believe creating a third party will split up voters and there will not be strength in supporters. The GOP needs to be held accountable. If incumbents do not represent the Republican ideals of Liberty, Free enterprise, National Pride and values, support of the individual to have dignity, and all other strengths that allow us to be the Ideal that other Nations strive to achieve, then we are going to go down the toilet. It is incredibly important that all incumbents are “put on notice”. If they do not represent the party’s values then they can start looking for work elsewhere. Our nation has never been in such jeopardy from within its’ own borders before. I also believe that all democrats have shown their true colors. No matter how any of them vote on any legislation, we know that they are never to be trusted to do what is in the interest of this great nation. We know without doubt that they are destructive and will only make this country a Socialist Republic. Clean house and wipe them all out. They have not supported the foundation of this country. We are a nation of the people by the people and for the people. Not a country run by idiots for the self enterests of narcisistic and egotistical CONTROL FREAKS. The enemy is within.
Support our Troops who have sacrificed for the ideals of freedom that so many take for granted.
I certainly do know that many democrats are not as Liberal and closed minded as the politicians are I would hope that there is a bridge for us all to gather on with common ground and hope.
God Bless us all and Merry Christmas!
I still think that America is ready for a Patriot Party. There are more of us than there are of them. More and more, America is waking up, and sick of both parties. If we had one Patriot Party, and all the teaparty people voted for it, we could win. only my opinion. I am changing my party affiliation because I don’t want to be known as a Republican or Democrat.!!
I believe the real problem with politics is the power the national parties have today. This is the result of term limits placed on the president. The real solution is to disallow funding to come from one state to fund elections in another. We need not put limits on contributions, but rather limits on only allow those who can for for a candidate to be able to contribute to them. This would necessarily be very detrimental to national parties; which as I said is what I believe to be the source of the problem.
We will never get away from this vicious trap until we are willing to vote for those who truly represent us, and stop paying attention to who the media tells us has a chance at winning. It’s time for a new movement in this country to bring us back to the Constitution. Neither of the two major parties will do that for us without being completely replaced. It would be easier to have a massive movement to a third party; maybe the “Tea Party”?
We need to support conservative Republicans and run conservatives against RINOs.
Senator Lindsay Graham (Republican?) said and I quote,
“I am going to enlarge the Republican Party, and I won’t let it be hijacked by Ron Paul.”
We Need one Patriot Party. We are ready for it.
The Democrats violate the Enumerated Powers Doctrine with almost every issue, and the Republicans give them credibility by not using the Constitution as a rebuttal. We have nothing without the Constitution and we need a force to stand up for it.
1. We need to STOP calling them ‘moderates’. They are RINOS and need to be taken our of the Republican Party.
2.I am not in favor of a third party. We all know what Ron Paul did in the last election by siphoning votes away from the Republicans. That and ACORN and their voter fraud gave us Barack Hussein Obama. We cannot afford that to happen again.
Neither party, in their current state, serve the interest of “we the people”. Both are currupt and have agendas of their own. That being said, the GOP can be salveged; the DEMs cannot. A third party movement would be self-defeating and would insure that Nancy, Harry, Obama and their ilk would remain in power for the forseeable future. We must united behind those candidates who adhere to the basic principles we support; and for now that is the GOP. Once back in control we can work to rid the party of the RINOs from within.
To me, we have to have the lesser of two evils. And independant party will only give liberals/progressives too much of a chance to advance their destructive agenda.
Therefore, we need to influence the GOP, like Reagan, not the other way around.
RINOS are disgusting and should be forced out of the party like Arlen Spector from PA.
Please, let’s take over the GOP and make it the conservative party that it was meant to be.
I believe the GOP is getting there. The Republican’s aren’t as conservative as I would like them to be, but they are the lesser of 2 evils, and we must not lose this battle for the Republic by splitting the votes.
I have begun calling and emailing 2010 candidates for both State and Federal offices. I usually put in the subject line - “Prove to me you’re the one”, then I proceed to lay out what I am looking for in my candidate, and tell them that I feel that the Republicans have abandoned their principles. I can say that every single one has called me back and we have had EXTENSIVE conversations. Going and meeting them is great too, but I find that I learn more when I have their undivided attention. I highly recommend this approach to anyone concerned about the 2010 elections.
Both sides of the isle have let us down. Most are there to line their pockets and forgotten that they work for the people. It’s time to throw out the old dogs and get some new ideas that want to save our Democracy and spend with “Common Sense”.
Keep the GOP. Vote the Bums out! Both parties.
I think we need to find a conservative Republican who believes in our Values. I am sure we can bring the party back to where it belongs. We must Stop the Control that the Leftist have in our Government before Obama “fundamentally Changes” the structure of our Country. This is no time for taking chances dividing our votes. We must stick together and stop the power struggle between us. Just remember why we United, Small Government, Stop Spending, Preserve our Constitution, and we must stop government take over of our lives. We All Must Think Long And Hard Before We Make Any Decision, This May Be Our Only Chance Before We Become A Third World, Before We Lose our Freedom. I Believe we only have One Shot.
The movement has to act like an unofficial third party and vote that way. We need to vote for anyone with a conservative history regardless of party affiliation. If there is no choice, ie, neither nominee sees it our way, we vote OUT the incumbent for sure. We need to flex our muscle and show that we have the power to vote out the traitors even if we aren’t strong enough yet to vote in a patriot. I am SO proud of what we are doing. Let’s give it our best shot.
I would love to see a tea party candidate but right now we need the GOP as much as they need us. Show them they have a better chance with us in 2010 and look toward a third party in 2012. We have to do whatever necessary next year to turn the balance around and stop those the screwballs we have there now.
I am a member of my county Republican Party and a member of my state Republican party. I attend candidate’s functions and over the course of a year I eat ten times more in free catered food than I pay in membership dues and month after month I am disgusted by how few real conservative activists attend party meetings. Talk is cheap. You can talk about taking over parties but you actually have to show up to do it. I have trouble figuring out how to vote in a Republican primary and I have met almost every candidate on that ballot from Constable, County Commissioner, and Assessor too Governor and Senator. My state has 9 Republicans who have already declared for Governor and I have met 8 of the 9 (most of them several times over the years). I don’t KNOW how somebody votes who never takes the time to meet the candidates. Almost every quarter we as a county party are voting for by laws, candidate requirements, executive committee assignments, state executive committee openings, debate locations/rules, etc and I don’t see tea party people there even being seen much less actually influencing anything. I am from a Republican County and the local lawyers have FAR more influence (in terms of numbers of folks actually bothering too show up) than do the Tea Party People who talk a big game but never step up to the plate to actually put their big talk into practice. Why does ACORN have so much influence in the Democrat Party? They pack local party meetings and then turn out their vote on election day.
THIS ISN’T HARD PEOPLE. Right now we have 51% of the vote again 36% for the liberals……..I’ve been attending Republican Club meetings for a few months now. I believe the GOP is beginning to “see the light”. WE’RE WINNING THIS FIGHT and we’re just getting started good!
We must exstend energy to take out the GOP incumbents in the primary election. John McCain is a good target. I would love to see him and others like him gone.
I think the GOP and the tea party group need to stick together. I think we can make sure that the people we vote for hold to the true republican values. We need each other if we are to defeat the dems next year, and it is imperative that we do that.
The taking control of the GOP, is the only option for success. Dividing the vote is certain failure.
We desperately need to just hold our noses and vote REPUBLICAN in 2010 so that we can get RID of Nancy and Harry! Then, when we have tossed those two onto the trash heap we can go after the Republicans AND the rest of the Democrats. Toss ‘em ALL out eventually!!
The truth is there is not a dimes worth of difference between Republicans & Democrats. Only “the truth will set you free”. We need to stop making ourselves feel good and accept reality. We need to vote for a concervative - our own concervative - not a puppet of this present corrupt political system. We need to form The Concervative party, offer a truely concervative choice, make all Americans aware that he/she is a true concervative and support him/her to the fullest extent possible. If you don’t like the party name “Concervtive”, how about “Patriot”?
If we keep doing the same thing, we will get the same results: high taxes, leaky borders, etc. Time for something new that addresses the issues we all care about: term limits, special interest money (they both take it in differing proportions), real representation of constituents and accountability. The GOOOH plan addresses all these.www.goooh.com Let’s tell them to Get Out of Our House. This is plan is structured specifically for the House.
I believe you need to get involved in the primaries and get rid of non-conservative Republicans, but that can only be done with outside support (Tea Party Patriots) of a Conservative in the Primary. Also, term limits need to be a part of the candidates platform, and mean it!
The main goal for now is to stop the Democrats,if that happens and the GOP does not man up then they will be next!
I know, not all of Washington is deaf, but most are. The GOP ear’s are perking up, they are beginning finally to hear us. We, the average Joe, or Jane are being both heard and ignored at the same time. I think the Republican party are wising up and wanting to atone for the GOP’S misstake’s of reasant past. The Democrat’s however own this disaster now, the same one’s who helped create it. The GOP is realizing now that it need’s to mold itsself from to us, The Will Of The People!
I have to vote in favor of Third Party all the way. I agree it would be great to wait until another party is strong enough to weather the storm but I am so totally disgusted with career politicians who have lost touch with why they are elected.
Every elected official takes an oath to uphold the rights granted under the Constitution yet the only Americans held accountable to the oath they took are our soldiers fighting and dieing in foreign lands.
All of my future votes will go against all those who are not holding true to oath they swore to.
Both parties have sold out to the Elite. Neither party is worth keeping for they are both ponds in the hand of the CFR. I am for term limits if they can not come back to serve again. In reality as I read the book of Revelation I find that the Lamb like beast (bison) of chapter 13 changes his voice to that of the dragon. I believe that we are seeing this happen. This means that we are close to a new kingdom being established on this earth. Jesus will soon set up His kingdom here. I want the freedoms to last as long as possible, but there will come a time that our freedoms will be taken from us. If now is not the time for Jesus to come, then I say we need to make a total change and dump both parties and establish parties that will have the interest of the people and our freedoms in heart.
I have an additional thoughts about future elections.
I am for legal immigration. I am against amnesty for illegal aliens. Illegal means illegal.
Illegal activity should never be rewarded, period!
We need to focus to block and stop amnesty.
We need to block entitlements to illegals in the healthcare bill too.
I believe the main objective of amnesty is to gain votes for the Democrats. They probably feel gratitude will turn into votes.
No matter how unified the Republicans become, will we have enough votes to counter increased amnesty voters if amnesty is passed?
iam a viet nam vet and retired military.
i have been betrayed too many times by republicans to ever vote for one. i believe it is impracticle to try to take them over. i have vowed to never vote for anyone running in the two parties. i hope third party candidates can win. i think that if all the different groups affilated with the tea party suppported one candidate that candidate could win.i would work for a constiution party, libertiran, or independent candidate.we need to cordinate coperation between the various organisations.
Absolutely not even a thought about forming a third party. If you do that, count me out. We need the Republican party to “man up” and that means we get involved from the ground up. Third parties are a recipe for disaster and I will have no part of the Tea Party movement if you go in that direction.
I think this is the wrong question to ask. It needs to be approached based on each Congressional District. In my district, I want to get rid of the Democrat incumbent, and we are going to be lucky to have a viable Republican run against him, let alone hold out for a 3rd party purist.
Generalities are useless.
With strong leadership a third party could win. Especially if identified as a Patriot. Both Democrates and Repulicans have gotten us into this mess. I do not want to be identified with either of our parties, so a third one would be very attractive to me. It will take strong leadership and strong convictions to our current constitution to succeed.
I think we need to get the Conservative Republicans, and help them out, and find good folks out there that will run, upholding the Constitution, lets face it, there both corrupt, but I do think there are more conservatives in the Republicans, I’m neither one, but I don’t think we can take a chance on a third party.
We have got to do something, and quick, this country is going down the tubes fast!
Frank
I AM AN REGISTERED INDEPENDENT AND THEREFORE A FREE THINKER.
YOUR TEA PARTY HAS ALL THE POWER TO INFLUIENCE THE GOP TO RETURN TO CONSERVATIVE VALUES.
USE THAT POWER OR FOREVER LOSE IT TO OBAMA AND HIS FAR LEFT SOCIALIST AND COMMUNIST FRIENDS.
To hell with all those liberals who want to take our money away and give it to the poor. The Constitution never said our money should be taken away to help others.
Let those who don’t have it, get it themselves. We should take over the GOP and show them that what is important is to look out for Number-1 (us, and our wealth)
God bless America
Make the GOP realize they must become more conserative to get our support
It is time for term limits in Congress! We the people need to hold these Washington “Fatcats” accountable for hearing our voices. So far they seem to ignore what the majority of Americans are saying.”NO MORE BAILOUTS AND SPENDING!” If they don’t want to listen then we, the people need to vote them out and vote someone with fiscal common sense in. It has nothing to do with parties but everything to do with selling out to special interest in order to save your seat in gov’t! Everything we see going on in the WH & Congress is payback for the votes last November.
