This is a quick post to tell you about three fantastic books you may want to consider for yourself or a gift for another. The authors of these three books are three of the best tea party organizers in the country, and they deserve to be rewarded for their hard work.
With this in mind, please consider purchasing one or more of the following if they catch your attention. As a disclaimer… TaxDayTeaParty.com is not paid anything, nor do we make a commission from these links. We’re simply sharing the information as a courtesy for the authors who we think are an intricate part of this movement.
1) Stand - Richard Behney
Richard Behney, will inspire you in Stand!, his bold and controversial commentary on how big government, big spending, and very little common sense in Washington D.C. is killing life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in America.
Behney, a tea party organizer who was part of the very first Chicago Tea Party in February of 2009, went on to organize large scale tea parties in Indiana, eventually leading to his run for U.S. Senate.
You can purchase his book in mp3 form, narrated by Richard Behney himself, on his website here. The standard book version is here, and you can snag an autographed version here.
2) A New American Tea Party - John O’Hara
What has driven hundreds of thousands of people to take to the streets in protest since late February, 2009? A cry of “enough” government expansion and interference and reassertion of individual liberty: a first principle that became a rallying cry behind a movement. A New American Tea Party presents the voices behind the growing discontent among every day citizens with increased government taxation, spending, and intervention.
The book, written by John O’Hara, a Chicago Tea Party organizer and one of the original organizers behind the nationwide April tea party efforts, provides for excellent insight into the movement as it began to grow into a revolution.
You can grab the book on Amazon.com here.
3) Signs of Freedom - Stephanie Selene Anderson
Signs of Freedom is a book of photography and words to capture the spirit and lament of the American people as we wake up to the real possibility of losing our freedom and liberty. This photographic journey expresses our message to Washington DC. In fact, it will make a great statement to your representatives when they view, once again, the bold, common sense statements on the millions of signs across America.
You can purchase the book at Crowded Corner Press.
SPECIAL: Anyone who donates $50 or more to Liberty First PAC in the month of February will receive a complementary copy of Signs of Freedom. DONATE NOW!
The Tea Party movement is the Republican party in sheepskin clothing.
They say they want smaller government except “Don’t touch money for defense”.
There’s nothing new there. Everyone is for cutting everything except their own pet projects.
It’s a myth that you can call for fiscal responsibility without making deep cuts in the defense budget. The defense budget overshadows all other discretionary programs. Welfare is a drop in the bucket compared to defense. You don’t balance the budget unless you can attack a program that soaks up 600 billion dollars each year.
China, which is second in defense spending worldwide, estimates their defense budget is 70 billion dollars. So they spend 9 times LESS than we do and have 3 times the population.
I’m not sure how much the Taliban spends on defense. They have no navy, no air force, no missiles, no fancy armored vehicles.
In fact when you see them in their training videos, they don’t even wear combat boots.
Yet for 9 years now they have been able to tie up our superior forces in a war where there is no light at the end of the tunnel…despite the fact that Allied forces outnumber them by 4 to 1 (and that doesn’t include the Afghan forces or the 100,000 military contractors)
Tea Baggers, get serious.
Our government spends more each year than it collects in taxes. This is a recipe for disaster. Each year more and more of our budget is taken up paying debt service.
What we need is not just a freeze but an across the board cut in ALL expenses…including defense.
If tea baggers really want credibility they need to say “Less government. Period”…and that includes in defense.”
Otherwise they are just repackaging a failed Republican platform: Less spending when the other guy is in power. And Back to business as usual when we hold the white house.
Wow, leave the hate and personality stuff to the emotional socialist leaning part of the population. We need to stay true to our goals and ideals. “Very, limited, very responsible government. No more programs that leave debt to future generations. No programs that are misused and destined to go broke.
Our kids do not need to inherhit our mistakes and weaknesses, thus causing them to pay interest to unfriendly foreign governments. We need to sacrifice for our childrens future. Get control over spending.
Liberty allows us to make mistakes as individuals not to indenture future generations. Thanks for the books recommendations.
I see the ‘tea party’ movement as a catchall group of homophobes, racists, sexists and many politically underdeveloped people led by a bunch of profiteers and anti-social justice elements,e.g., Rush Limbaugh,Mark Levin,Sean Hannity, who are as potentially dangerous as the confederates during the Slavocracy. Beware!
Hey Jasper, good idea . Let’s put the head of AIG in the White House, there’s a businessman for you.
Just think about how much more you could get done if your paycheck didnt get raped every week by the government. The Fair Tax is the solution to most of the current economic problems.Everyone has more money to spend and save and we get everyone paying into the system in a fair way. The poor pay practically no taxes, and the more money you make, the more money you spend, so the more taxes you pay. FAIR!
Why cant the Tea Party get behind the Fair Tax and make that its main message? To get us out from under this punishing tax code? They need a message and thats the best one out there. Everybody gets to keep all their income, and the government still gets funded just as well if not better. It seems like a pretty common sense idea to me.
I have yet to see any solutions to our problems coming from the Tea Party. You claim to want to cut spending, yet propose no ideas on how.
I do believe that America needs a third party, but the Tea’s are unlike the Populist movement of the late-19th early 20th centuries and more in common with the “Know Nothings”.
Americans made the deficit because of the contitued centerists idea (Both Republician and Democrat) that Cutting Taxes and Increasing speading = Better Economy.
Adam said “constitutional reform” is a way to “fix” the problems?! wow..do i find that funny. thats what people have been trying to do: they are ripping apart the constitution, trying to say that there is no way we can understand the founding fathers true intent. the only thing that can “fix” our problems is GOING BACK TO THE CONSTITUTION! i’m sick of our American Rights being trampled on!
I can agree with lots this party has to offer, smaller government, reigned in spending, etc. and just plain sick and tired of Dems and Rebubs. But please, please don’t think Sarah Palin is going to get my vote or that of many others looking for something new. Palin is not a viable candidate and appeals to only a few while alienating even more. I voted for McCain over Bush in the 2000 primaries but couldn’t vote for him the last election with her on the ticket.
Has anyone in this organization actually read the writings of Jefferson or Madison? You will see in short order their primary fear was not so much of monarchy but of DEMOCRACY driven by the uninformed MOB. I keep hearing and seeing sound bytes about “revolution” and “taking our country back”. I will remind all that for every dollar spent in this governent there is someone receiving. Doe this Tea Party propose antying in the way of spending cuts?
My issue is not with government it is with the people of this country. We are fatter than ever, more diabetic than ever, import more pot and cocaine than ever, and I helplessly watch as foreign students claim top spots in our schools while our kids are watching MTV.
If you want to see a microcosm of the behavior of American citizen go out on the highway and drive, say, 10 mph over the speed limit in the left lane and see what you get from your fellow “freedom fighter”.
Sorry, this whole mess might just be OUR fault by asking this governemnt to continute to borrow money to keep their promises to us. Instead of marching on Washington you should start considering marching down Main St. and demanding each of us start taking responsibility for ourselves.
I was on Amazon.com ordering a book on the Tea Party movement. The Tea Party Movement By Bruce Bexley.I always read the reviews first. There were 5 reviews. 5 and 4 stars. What I found was an attack by what was obviously a homosexual effort to belittle this book with references to tea bagging and some one with the handle “The General” and a doctored picture of Dick Chaney bare chested. Evidently they think the Tea Party movement is a group of “angry white men” who hate people of color and I guess every one else.
Until this movement starts demanding value for money in defense spending, it will continue to be a farce in my eyes.
We spend ungodly amounts of money on fighter jets and bombs when we need to be training people to speak Arabic etc. and be infiltrating terrorist cells.
The only thing is, the FAT CATS don’t make any money if we spend our money on that. And if they did they wouldn’t need to spend half of what they do now to keep us safer than we are.
I don’t think most of you care because the movement is in reality composed of a bunch of pot stirring idealogues.
If you are naive enough to be a part of this and don’t realize that you’re being led around by the nose, get out while you can.
Or at least go support someone like Ron Paul, who has some limit government spending credibility.
Any problem with any type of government stems from the people themselves first and foremost. Why weren’t there tea party’s when Mr. Bush was in office? Why all the sudden do we flip out when a man that has had no time and relatively little influence from outside parties even his own gets the Presidency? I dont understand why there is so much animosity and hate to somebody that just got into office. All I ask is that in the spirit of humanity one principle that we all can embrace stop hating just one side. Its both their faults and our own ignorance which led us down this path. We have only ourselves to fix this. I am for a new movement but that calls forth the true principles of democracy. A 3/4 vote on a brand new constitutional convention is the only way for our country to evolve and move further forward. The constitution is a great document but by know means did the founding fathers say it was perfect. It fitted them for the time.
Benjamin Franklin said that a good revolution every 100 years gets rid of corruption in the governmet. I am not saying civil war but more parties instead of the two parties that control the government. The political machine believes it is invinsible but the power comes from the people like the tea party. We need to support more political parties that support the people than support their own variable intrests and pocket books. The Vice-President has had no other job than a political office but yet he was able to save 2 million dollars for his own bank account. Honor and trust should start from the top and I have not seen any.
Ahhhh… poor babies. We teaparty people were just a bit of a nuisnace to this big government, never thought that our movement would get anywhere! Cry babies, you will not win when you try to run a smear campaign on us. You want to know why? The true American people have something called freedom, inside our souls, untouchable by anyone other than God. He is our strength. No one can take a man’s soul and spirit, imprison it in a country that our founding fathers lived and died, for that freedom. Whatever you try, we shall fight aginst it and we will fight again and again, as many times it takes!!!! Wev will not be overcome!
Anyone involved with Harvard, Princeton and Yale unversities, bullets and bombs manufacturing, banking and Wall Street investing is corrupt and can’t be trusted, to be in politics.
I just want to say that you support businesses to make there own decisions right? I believe its big business that republicans support that have helped eliminate jobs by outsourcing. I was a republican until I saw John McCain pick Palin as a running mate. If that woman is allowed to rule our country we will face our greatest peril ever. Constitutional reform is the key to our problems today not blaming who’s in office or the left. So please do not blame our president he is no socialist, but a man seeing whats best for our family that also has more facts and information then you or I will ever have.
Don’t vote for a lawyer to public office they don’t have a clue how to run a business, only vote for someone that has owned a business that understands the economy, this must be a requirement.
this is not a democracy. it never has been. it is a federal constitutional republic. we don’t get to vote on every decision. we put those politicians you’re blaming all our problems on into office.
Thanks for listing these books - I’m glad that someone is documenting our history, since the MSM won’t admit it!
It’s not just the unauthorized spending, it’s the corruption and underhanded contracts that go to the cronies of the politicians. We’re trying to rally support to get rid of spend-heavy, tax-heavy Ed Rendell in the key state of Pennsylvania. Go here http://www.nomoreinsiders.com to sign the petition to keep corruption out of the government. Let’s take PA back like we did Mass.
I’ve been making the rounds again. And I repeat, YOU have a vote. YOU are the best candidate for Congress, until someone better comes along.
But I suggest that you don’t bother unless you support taxpayer approval of spending. Because nothing else will work.

Ah, the vote. Still haven’t had time to look into the authenticity of that article. But I’m feeling good. We now have a vote before us.
Each and every one of you can put your name, or at least your username, forward. And run on the taxpayer approval of spending platform.
That’s what democracy is all about - the people having votes.
I firmly believe that I know what needs to be done to regain control of the Treasury.
And I’m feeling good.

I have no idea if this article is true. It was linked to on the front page of realclearpolitics. It references another article which I don’t have time to look into at the moment. It claims that government debt over 90% of GDP has been bad news with an 800 year track record. And we’re at 84%.
If you think the oligarchy cares, think again.
An “army” of ordinary citizens is our best hope. We must wrest control of the Treasury from the oligarchy.
No one is stepping up, though. We need 471 taxpayer approval of spending candidates by March 30. I don’t care if you’re 90, anonymous, and in a wheelchair. You’re the best candidate until someone else comes along.
Spiking, VA-8
Do all Tea Partiers agree that “unauthorized” government spending is the vast bulk of the problem?
If so, these are the solutions that I see:
1. Taxpayer approval of spending (TA). It is a giant club that can beat lawmakers into submission. If they don’t submit, we run TA candidates and outvote them. If they refuse to leave office once outvoted, then the military will need to act.
2. Hmmmm. I’m not so good on solution #2. That’s why I post in public forums. Still waiting on that better idea.
