Associated Press WriterWASHINGTON (AP) - Members of both parties Monday voted to keep their cherished home-state projects as the Senate resumed debate on a spending bill covering foreign aid and domestic agency budgets.
By a 63-32 vote, lawmakers rejected a bid by Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to effectively strip about 8,000 of those earmarks from the $410 billion measure.
“If the president really wants to change Washington, as soon as this bill reaches his desk, he should veto it and send it back and say, ‘Clean it up,’” McCain said.

Instead, the White House says President Barack Obama will sign the measure, despite all the projects.
The 1,132-page spending bill awards big increases to domestic programs and is stuffed with pet projects. The measure wraps together nine spending bills to pay for the annual operating budgets of every Cabinet department except for the departments of Defense, Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs.

Is it just me or does it seem like every time Obama’s lips are moving he’s lying? He says there are no earmarks in this bill. It is quite clear that this bill is chock full of earmarks. But instead of calling them earmarks he is calling them “special projects”. Oh, well, that makes it all different then, doesn’t it? Unfortunately the debt our children and grandchildren will be paying will still be just as enormous, no matter what Obama decides to call it. (According to Obama’s VP Joe Biden it will just be their “patriotic duty”.) We must be alert to the liberal “double speak”.
And did you notice that the annual operating budgets not included are for the Department of Defense, Homeland Security, and Veterans Affairs! That makes me feel real safe. And what about our veterans who have put their lives on the line for us?
I have no trust in anything that comes out of this administration. We must do all we can to stop this out-of-control spending of future generations’ tax dollars.
I am so glad that Americans are standing up to this. We will make our voices heard April 15th and July 4th and on into the future if necessary. “Unite or die”
